Jakarta, INDONESIA – The Indonesian NAIST Alumni Association (INAA) successfully held its Annual Reunion Meeting on August 18, 2024, at Oakwood Hotel Taman Mini, Jakarta. This year’s meeting was particularly special, with a record attendance of 12 delegates from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST).

Dr. Sarmoko acted as MC welcoming all participants

The meeting began with Dr. Sarmoko, one of NAIST alumni, who acted as the Master of Ceremony (MC) of this year’s meeting. He welcomed all participants, which included alumni and NAIST delegation. The President of INAA, Dr. Berry Juliandi, gave a welcoming speech, introducing the Indonesian NAIST alumni who attended the meeting and also thanking both alumni and NAIST delegation for participating on this year’s meeting, particularly the presence of NAIST President, Dr. Shiozaki. This marked the first time NAIST President has attended an INAA meeting in person, enhancing the significance of this year’s reunion.

Prof. Shiozaki’s opening speech deeply touched all alumni, as he emphasized that the success of alumni contributes to the success of NAIST, showcasing strong connection between NAIST and its worldwide alumni community. The meeting proceeded with informative presentations from NAIST delegation, INAA committee, and alumni. Topics covered comprised the continuous partnership between NAIST and Indonesia presented by Prof. Bessho, INAA activities such as research contributions, visits, conferences, etc. reported by Dr. Yekti, as well as research studies and collaborations between alumni presented by alumni representatives and also introduction of laboratories and alumni association by Prof. Hirota and Prof. Kiyokawa. The interactive Q&A and discuss session that followed was lively, as participants enthusiastically engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, exchanging stories, and reconnecting with one another.

The reunion activities extended beyond the meeting, with a pre-event dinner on August 17 at restaurant named Taman Koleksi, Bogor. This dinner event offered a casual environment for NAIST delegation, alumni, and their families to enjoy Indonesian cuisine and catch up on each other’s lives and work. On the day of the meeting, participants after the lunch time visited and explored cultural attractions at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) including Plaza Kori, Anjungan Bali, and the Komodo Museum.

The 2024 INAA Annual Reunion Meeting was a huge success, encouraging teamwork, building relationships, and broadening networks among alumni and NAIST. The event highlighted the alumni’s successes and emphasized the need to continue fostering close connections with NAIST for future partnerships.
