Prof. Masashi Kawaichi, former Director of the NAIST Indonesia Offices in Bogor and Yogyakarta, played a key role in expanding academic and research collaborations between NAIST and partner universities in Indonesia. He is currently Professor Emeritus of NAIST and he continues his dedication to science and education as Director of the Nozaki Tokushukai Hospital Research Institute in Osaka, Japan.

Professor Yasumasa Bessho has been appointed as the Director of the NAIST Indonesia Office and since then he has actively strengthened collaboration between NAIST and partner universities across Indonesia by promoting joint research, student exchanges, and internship opportunities to connect Indonesian scholars with Japan’s advanced research environment. Alongside his role as director, Prof. Bessho is a Professor in the Division of Biological Science at NAIST and an expert in developmental biology. His research focuses on gene regulation and Notch signaling, particularly the mechanisms controlling rhythmic gene expression during vertebrate development.
