NAIST Professors Visit to Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University

Yogyakarta, INDONESIA   On February 25 and 26, 2025, professors from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) visited Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, as part of an academic engagement initiative to strengthen collaboration and academic exchange between the two universities.

The delegation arrived on February 25 and was warmly welcomed by Indonesian NAIST alumni. In the evening, they gathered for dinner to reconnect with alumni and discuss collaborative activities.

The main academic events took place at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM) on February 26. Prof. Mikiya Fujii, Prof. Hiroyuki Katsuki, and Assoc. Prof. Yaxiaer Yalikun delivered guest lectures at the Department of Physics, while Prof. Tsuyoshi Kawai gave a lecture at the Department of Chemistry. The lecture topics showcased the cutting-edge research from NAIST, including:

  • Modification of Material Properties by Forming Polaritonic States (Prof. Hiroyuki Katsuki)
  • Advancing Micro & Nano-Scale Material Processing with Ultra-Short Pulse Lasers (Assoc. Prof. Yaxiaer Yalikun)
  • Data-Driven Materials Science: How AI and Machine Learning Transform Research in Materials Science (Prof. Mikiya Fuji)
  • Advancing Organic Photo-Lithographic Technology (Prof. Tsuyoshi Kawai)

The visit included mini seminar and discussions regarding the doctoral double degree program between UGM and NAIST. The discussion reflect shared commitment to advancing research through international collaboration.

Besides the academic activities, the professors also enjoyed a cultural visit to Fort Vredeburg Museum, providing an opportunity to explore rich history and heritage of Yogyakarta.

The Yogyakarta visit marks another step forward in strengthening the academic ties between NAIST and Indonesian institutions.
