The second International Conference on Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering (BioMIC) 2019 was successfully held by UGM on September 12-13, 2019 in Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta. The event is a part of the university annual scientific conferences series (UASC 2019) and designed as a platform for global researchers to discuss their latest finding of research and technological development in the fields of bioinformatics, biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Hundreds of participants joined the conferences this year including our professors from Material Science and Biological Science Division.
Prof. Shun Hirota from NAIST Material Sciences came to the conference as an invited speaker and delivered interesting research topic “Constructing Heme Protein Supramolecules by 3D Domain Swapping” in the second plenary session. A day before, he also invited as a guest lecturer in the Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. During the lecture he introduced NAIST programs and admission processes to all participants, especially those who interested to study in Material Science.
Another NAIST staff, Asoc. Prof. Takayuki Tohge from Biological Science also participated in BioMIC 2019. He delivered his presentation of “Metabolomics-assisted Functional Genomics of Plant Phenolic Secondary Metabolism” in the first day of the conference. He also invited as a guest lecturer in Faculty of Biology UGM and had a chance to introduce NAIST to all interested participants. He has a good impression during his first-time visiting Yogyakarta. Both Prof. Shun and Asoc. Prof. Tohge are warm-welcomed and well-treated by our alumni during their visit in Yogyakarta.
